ST. MARY'S PARISH IS FIRST TO HAVE FULL TIME DIRECTOR OF PLAY TIME PROGRAM

The Rev. Thomas J. Toole, pastor of St. Mary's Church, announces the appointment of Allie P. Quatrano as Director of Physical Education and Social Recreation for the parish effective at once.

St. Mary's church thus becomes the first parish in the history of Elmira Parishes or the Rochester Diocese to sponsor a full time program of this character and it is the intention of Mr. Quatrano to arrange a complete physical program for all grades of the grammar school including calisthenics, folk and tap dancing, apparatus, individual corrective work for students requiring special attention and all other forms of intramural sports for boys and girls such as, volley ball, indoor and outdoor hockey, indoor and outdoor soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, boxing, wrestling, track, touch football, handball, badminton, deck tennis, shuffleboard and ping pong.

Details of this program will be extended to include in this extensive program all High School children of the parish.

A program has been worked out for adult participation in Social Recreation and gym classes will be formed for members of the Holy Name society and members of the Sodalities as well as all other men and women of the parish.

Mr. Quatrano is a graduate of St. Anthony's grammar school and Southside high school. He also attended Cortland State Normal, Springfield (Mass.) College, Notre Dame, having taken the Boy Guidance and Leadership course at this latter institution, and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the American College of Physical Education at Chicago, Ill.

He also attended Long Island University and obtained a certificate qualifying him to instruct in all major sports.

For the past eleven years Mr. Quatrano has been associated with the Elmira Neighborhood House having risen in that organization from a member to Executive Director, a position he has held for the past two years.

He has gained a great deal of knowledge of boys camp life having acted in the capacity of assistant camp director for the Boy Scouts Camp at Camp Seneca and served as camp director for the past three years at camp Villa Maria.

In addition, Mr. Quatrano has completed a five year course in Boy Scout work, is an Eagle Scout and one of six in the Elmira area who has been awarded the Scoutmaster's key.
