Reverend James Nelan


Father Nelan was born in Elmira, N.Y., October 16, 1915. He attended St. Mary's School in 1921 until 1929. He then attended Southside High School and began his studies for the priesthood at St. Andrew's Seminary in Rochester, N.Y. He finished his studies for the priesthood at Niagara University and was ordained at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Rochester, N.Y. by Bishop Duffy on May 30th, 1942. He celebrated his first mass at St. Mary's in Elmira, N.Y. on the next day. Father Nelan served as assistant at Holy Rosary, Jacksonville, Fla. until June, 1943 and at St. James, Orlando Beach. For the past three years, Father Nelan has been taking a special course at Catholic University, Washington, D.C.
