Reverend Donald J. Murphy

Father Murphy was born in Elmira, was graduated at St. Mary's School in 1920 and from the Elmira Free Academy in 1924. He attended St. Andrew's and St. Bernard's Seminaries in Rochester, N.Y. and was ordained on June 4th, 1937. He said his first ass at St. Mary's in Elmira, N.Y. on June 6th, 1937. His first appointment was as assistant pastor at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rochester, N.Y. where he remained until going into the army, February, 1943. After attending Chaplain School at Harvard University, he was sent to the 13th Airborne Division. Father Murphy went overseas with the 90th Infantry Division in February, 1944. Father Murphy returned from overseas in March, 1946 and was returned to inactive duty with the rank of Major. He was appointed assistant pastor at St. Thomas Church, Rochester, N.Y. in April 1946 and was appointed to the faculty of Aquinas Institute, September, 1946. He is now on the faculty of that school teaching World History and American history.
